Worship

9:00 AM  Traditional Service:

All generations gather together for a service of hymns (from Chalice Praise, our hymnal), a pastoral prayer, scripture readings, a sermon, and communion.  While traditional, the service isn't stuffy. There's a children's sermon for the kids and everyone who chooses to commune is welcome to do so.

11:00 AM Contemporary Service:

Featuring a small praise team and band, this service flows from praise to paying attention to God's word, to communion, to prayer and back to praise again. Come in the clothes you're comfortable wearing.

Special Services:

The Longest Night: Held on or around December 20th each year. This is a service of comfort and healing for people experiencing sorrow or loss during the holidays.

Christmas Eve:

Candlelight and carols, scriptures and special music combine to make Christmas Eve a holy, happy time of worship.  Our service schedule changes from year to year.  Most years we hold one service early in the evening and another at 11:00 p.m.

Maundy Thursday: The Thursday night before Easter we hold a special service to remember Jesus' new commandment to "Love One Another."  The Latin word for "commandment" is where the word "Maundy" comes from.  On that night the Lord's supper is the central focus of our worship.  Some years we modify a Jewish Seder Supper and worship in the fellowship hall.  Some years we hold a more traditional service of worship in the sanctuary.

Good Friday: The Friday night before Easter we hold a special service to remember the death of Jesus.  This is a time for introspection and asking forgiveness for the ways we have been unjust and without mercy.  We remember Jesus' crucifixion in a somber unfolding of the story.

Easter: On Easter we celebrate Christ's resurrection in a sanctuary filled with Easter lillies and light.  Joyous praise and a message of hope for the world is proclaimed.  Sometimes we hold sunrise services in addition to our services at 9:00 and 11:00.  Sometimes we schedule baptisms to take place during services on Easter Sunday.

Pentecost:  Fifty days after Easter is celebrated as the birthday of the Church. On this late spring Sunday the color red symbolizes the Spirit of God alive within and among us.  Some years we celebrate baptisms on Pentecost Sunday.  At East Lincoln we particularly pray for new congregations and celebrate their ministries on this day.

Weddings:  Call the church office if you are interested in being married at East Lincoln.  (402.486-4673)
